You can install the search engine on your existing hosting server, whether Windows or Unix based. There's no need to host the search on another server.
Because Search Engine Studio uses its own database engine optimized for the searching purposes, there is NO setup required on server. All you need to do is upload the files created by the program (or even have the program do it for you!) and the search is ready to be used!
The program can create a highly optimized binary CGI script for Apple Mac OSX (e.g. WebStar / Apache), Unix (e.g. Apache on Linux, FreeBSD, Sun Sparc - Solaris) / Windows servers. The CGI scripts generated are lightning fast even when indexing hundreds of thousands of documents. The program can also generate a Java servlet or PHP script (compatible with virtually all web servers but slower when a very large number of documents is indexed). You can also create a version for offline search (equally fast as the CGI version, suited for CD-ROM / DVD distributions) which will work on Windows as well as Unix and Mac browsers with no additional software and no internet connection required.
With Search Engine Studio you can index Static & dynamic HTML pages (e.g. PHP, ASP, JSP, ColdFusion, CGI scripts), Abobe Acrobat (PDF) documents, MS Office Documents: MS Word (.doc, .rtf), MS Excel (.xls), MS PowerPoint (.ppt, .pps), Open Office documents, CHM (HTM L Help), PostScript, Flash, audio/video/image documents (avi, jpg, mov, mp3, ogg, png, ram, rm, swf, wma, wmv), contents of archives (zip, gz, tar, tag, gz, z).
